Isak's Arm Up-date

So, Isak ended up having to have surgery to fix his Ulna and Radius bones. He waited from Monday until Thursday with badly misaligned bones and lots of pain - we were dolling out the pain meds on a tight schedule.

Isak did well on the anesthesia (compared to the boy we saw the same age, similar procedure on the same arm just as we walked in - who was very disoriented and weepy).  The doctor said it went well but that Isak will not get a cast until the earliest on the 20th when he goes in for a re-check and more x-rays. And he may not get a proper cast even then. He has a heavy duty splint and bandage (see picture). I really hope he does get a cast, because it would be great if he got one of those water proof ones so he can shower and swim. He is not in as much pain now that the bones are in their proper position.

The sad part is he will not be able to participate in P.E. for 6-8 weeks (as long as it takes to completely heal, because the risk for re-injury is so great). Doctor's firm orders. Soccer season has been canceled. Perhaps even sadder are the medical bills that will start arriving right before Christmas. I guess we can wrap some of the x-rays and the remains of Isak's cast in a box and put it under the tree for everyone to unwrap. :I
