Isak earns his Arrow of Light

Isak turned 11 years old in July and he earned his scout Webelos badge and his Arrow of Light - the highest cubs scout honor. This means he is no longer a cub scout, but an official boy scout. He "crossed over" the bridge and was greeted by the boy scout troop, a long row of outstanding boys in beige shirts. It was a very nice ceremony.

Elinas ridläger

Det är troligen sista året som Elina är med på ridlägret på Majic Stables, eftersom vi rider såpass ofta (och gratis) numera. Så länge vi har den möjligheten kommer hon nog inte åka hit. Men när jag bokade denna veckan så hade vi inte börjat rida där ännu. Hur som helst så hade Elina roligt och hon lärde sig en väldig massa teori i år, vilket var roligt.

 Som ni ser, så är hästen utrustad med shabrak (ett favorit ord frpn barndomen, minns jag). Men hur är det med benställningen, Elina? Hmm.

Construction is never on schedule, but it seems we have finally turned the corner. The foundation, the electrical, the plumbing and the heat and air. It is finally moving along. A few pictures here, none of the bathrooms because there was not enough light.

Mark poured a double driveway in the back and added a carport.

Besides the street in front of the house, there is an alleyway that goes behind the property which accesses the carport.

Sailing 2013

Isak did his third year of sailing this week. Here are some pictures from the lake and the boathouse on the last day of camp. HERE is a video.

Isak received the "Fastest Sailor" award for the second year in a row.
His teacher announced that he was undisputedly the fastest.
Next year is not allowed to come back to this camp, but must take the advanced class (which is one day shorter, so Isak preferred this one). But maybe if Isak is gone from the class Elina will be brave and try it without her brother dominating events. ;)

Baseball - slutet

Som jag nämnde i ett tidigare inlägg, så spelade Isak baseball. Laget bestod av andra killar från samma skola, och de kallades the Truman Rangers (efter the Texas Rangers). Redan från början tyckte flera av oss mammor att tränaren var lite väl intensiv för att träna ett så ungt lag, och ett lag som dessutom inte spelade i en sk "competitive" liga, utan en "recreational." Han var rent av taskig i många lägen, ja faktiskt i stort sett varje träning var det något vi reagerade på. Att han skrek på hela laget gick väl an, men ofta pekade han ut individuella spelare och förlöjligade dem. En av pojkarna slutade spela med laget halvvägs in på säsongen och efter en träning kom Isak hem och var jätteledsen över hur tränanren behandlat honom. Jag emailade tränaren snällt och förklarade att jag inte brydde mig hur många armhävningar eller varv runt planen Isak sprang, men att jag drar gränsen när det gäller offentligt åtlöje. Tillbaka fick jag ett enormt långt svar där tränaren förnekade att han någonsin gjort något som man kunde ifrågasätta och gick i emotattack på mig och Mark på ett märkligt sätt. Jag hade en så stark känsla av att det var något fel med den där tränaren och både jag och Mark tyckte att Isak inte behövde gå tillbaka till laget, även om det kändes trist. Det hände en hel del andra saker också, men i korta drag så tog det nån vecka och så fick tränaren sluta för han hade dödshotat en av föräldrarna (som fångat det på film!) och hur det gick till kan jag inte ens nämna här, men det var verkligen skrämmande. Och sen visade det sig att han hade ett kriminellt förflutet, med bland annat svindleri, misshandel och stalking. HUR han kunnat glida igenom bakgrundskollen har vi ingen aning om för en enkel google sökning tog fram både det ena och det andra... Gift var han, men ändå hade han dateat TVÅ av de ensamstående mammorna på laget. Han hade också en profil på nån dateing hemsida "donotdatethispsycho.com." Pga dödshotet var det ingen som direkt kände för att spela resten av säsongen i fall den avskedade tränaren skulle få för sig att dyka upp nån match. Vem vet var han är kapabel till? Den assisterande tränaren (som var jättesnäll och inte kände huvud tränaren sen innan, men kände ett visst ansvar att det blivit som det blev) bjöd på en trevlig fest för laget och alla familjerna på pizzaresturang. En väldigt trevlig avslutning på en bisarr upplevelse. Alla spelarna fick diplom och lite andra grejer.

Isak's 11th birthday

Isak's birthday fell on the day after the 4th of July, this year again. We held a party on his actual birthday, and I was so tired after having the cousins at the house for three funfilled days, my efforts were minimal. But it still turned out great. This week sported historically low temperatures for July so for the very first time I saw boys being cold after swimming for a while. We did a pool birthday party for Isak for the third year in a row. It is such a fantastic way to do a birthday party, especially since Mark had to work and I was alone doing this. Wish all the kids had summer birthdays. I am grateful for our wonderful neighbor, Sarah, who lets us use her pool. I can't believe he is 11!!!

4th of July 2013

Uncle Jim and the cousins, Eliot and Merritt drove in from Dallas and spent three days and two nights with us, including the 4th of July. Mark introduced Jim to his own favorite mode of relaxation:  laying on the bed while watching the beach channel. I can attest to the fact that it is truly mesmerizing!

 Troy also came down with his two kids: Sebastian and Liam. 

So we had all the cousins except one here.

 After a nice 4th of July dinner, we went to the OU pool where we paid an entry fee that included hot dogs, chips cookies and drinks. Awesome set-up! I had packed a cooler filled with picnic food. Completely unnecessary. They had games, dancing and lots of fun. At 9.30 the Cit of Norman put on a firework display from Reaves Park (as always). And we saw the whole thing from the pool since we were only a block away. I think we will definitely spend the 4th of July this way again in the future!
